Caffeine and Octane – May 2013: Riders on the Storm

The weather forecast leading up to this weekend fluctuated constantly. Sometimes it didn’t look good, and other times it looked like it might clear early in the morning.

I woke from the alarm clock and could still hear raining. I looked at the weather online and on the television. It looked like it was still likely to be raining some. It just didn’t matter. It was time to get in the car and drive down to Alpharetta.

Okay, it wasn’t really driving for the first third of the trip. It was more like water skiing. Still, the wipers, headlights and defroster worked great for a 40 year old car. Heck, even some of the rear defogger still worked.

When I got to the main lot, it was virtually empty. That wasn’t too big of a surprise. I set up some cones to save some spaces and walked over to one of the few vehicles in the lot. It was Michael Thies from Southeast Wheels Events. He said some Honda people arrived before me, but they went off to get some coffee.

I returned to my car and checked my phone for messages. Pete texted me saying he wasn’t bringing his Z. I replied that the rain had stopped at the lot. I found out later this changed his mind. A couple of Lamborghinis showed up and some other cars trickled in VERY slowly. Eventually the Z Atlanta crew arrived and parked behind my car. Pete and Larry showed up in the Zs, as well. As a matter of fact, Zs and BMWs comprised a good portion of the cars that did show up.

It was definitely a day for the hard-core C&O crowd.
