The Mitty 2013 – Day 2

Rain in the morning was NOT something I wanted to hear. I knew what it meant. Many people would change their plans and not bring their cars out.
Saturday is usually the best day for walking the car corrals. People buy a one-day ticket for Saturday and hang out.

My brother and I drove over to Road Atlanta in the rain. The wipers on the 260Z work pretty good since I cleaned up the linkages. They easily kept up with the rain. We hid under a large shelter on the infield and watched brief glimpses of cars passing between turns 11 and 12. The rain lighten up some more, and we ventured out. However, the rain wouldn’t stop, so we, along with a friend from the Georgia Z Club, took refuge under a canopy near Turn 10.

The rain finally stopped before 10. I took the opportunity to grab my camera. Along with some friends, we set up a couple of canopies at a concrete pad at the top of the hillside overlooking Turn 10. I experimented with different vantage points along the fence and up at the top of the hillside. I also wandered through the car corrals some, snapping pictures as I went along. Unfortunately, I could tell that attendance was down compared to past events.

The clouds kept the temperatures down and prevented some of the usual afternoon glare. I ended up taking lots of pictures in burst mode, catching a few good action sequences.

The Mitty 2013 – Day 1

I like Fridays at The Mitty. I can walk through the paddock and take pictures from the front straight bridge without getting in the way of other people. This time I was joined by my brother, who managed to get away early enough to enjoy the extra day at the track.
We got to Road Atlanta a little after 8. After parking the car, I got to meet Andy Reid with Grassroots Motorsports Magazine. He is one of the people who put in the effort to make the Mitty what it is.
After walking through the paddock, we joined some of my Z car friends at Turn 10. That’s a nice place to take pictures of cars trying to overtake in the braking zone while going downhill.
We also walked through the Vendor Village and returned to watch more racing.
